Dec 15, 2015 · Glad to hear the issue is resolved. As for the hardware requirements, pfSense is stupidly-low. I have my pfSense as an appliance, running a Intel 1.7GHz Dual-core Atom ( ! ) with 4GB RAM, it rarely goes over 5% with Squid/Squidguard/ntopng/two OpenVPN instances/snort/reporting. I bet it could run on an old P3 650MHz without trouble.
Pfsense seems to cutting the speed in half. Reading other users the SG-5100 works best with gigabit and has resolved these issues for others. I hope we can figure out what is causing the slow down. So while I have not resolved the slow speed in the VM issue, I am sticking a pin in that for now, so I can get my pfsense up and running. Adding a System Tunable or loader.conf.local entry for net.isr.dispatch=deferred can lead to performance gains on such systems. Jun 18, 2010 · As your comment about port forwarding working then not working, it sounds like you have probably have some sort of other issue - pfSense is very reliable. The only problem you might be encountering if is you have IPv6 enabled and have the bogons filter, the size of the Bogons filter can cause the Firewall rules not to load properly.
